Electronic Chart Display & Information System (ECDIS) - Revalidation Course (MS – 1138A)

This course provides training in the basic theory and use of Electronic Chart Display and information Systems (ECDIS) for those who will be in charge of a navigational watch on vessels equipped with ECDIS. It will meet or exceed the level of knowledge and competence specified in Reg. II/1, II/2 & II/3, Sec.A-II/1, A-II/2 & A-II/3, Table A-II/1, A-II/2 & A-II/3 STCW ’78 as amended in 2010.

The theoretical aspects like all major characteristics of ECDIS data such as data contents and all major characteristics of the display of ECDIS data will be covered in sufficient depth.

For practical capabilities and skills, exercises are performed which will provide practice in setting up and maintaining an ECDIS display, in planning and monitoring a route, in using basic navigational functions and equipment in a real-time navigational environment, in activating updates and in performing proper actions which are neceshttp://www.cinec.edu/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=courses#sary for a safe navigational watch.

A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to use ECDIS for his navigational watch. He will be able to operate ECDIS equipment, use the navigational functions of ECDIS, select and assess all relevant information and take proper action.In addition, he will have knowledge of the principal types of electronic chart and the essential legal aspects of the use of ECDIS.

None mandatory. Beneficial to gain competency for Navigation Officers who will be using Electronic Charts onboard.

Course Intake Limitations

  • Number of Students not to exceed 18.
  • As per the student number adequate classrooms/ laboratories/ workshops/ other facilities to be provided.
  • Learner / Trainer Ratio – Lectures – 18:1 / Practical – 9:1

Minimum Qualification :- The lecturer/instructor would hold a Certificate of Competency as Chief Officer (Unlimited).
