Insulin Resistance and Hormonal Disorders Research Group

Welcome to the Forefront of Insulin Resistance and Hormonal Disorders Research Group at CINEC Campus

The “Insulin Resistance and Hormonal Disorders Research Group” is a dedicated team of researchers and clinicians focused on advancing our understanding of insulin resistance and hormonal disorders. Our group is committed to conducting innovative research that explores the complex interplay between insulin resistance and various hormonal imbalances, such as those seen in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), diabetes, and other related conditions.

Our research efforts encompass a wide range of approaches, including molecular biology, genetics, endocrinology, and clinical studies. By integrating these diverse perspectives, we aim to uncover novel insights into the underlying mechanisms of insulin resistance and hormonal disorders, with the goal of developing more effective diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions.

We collaborate with leading experts in the field, both nationally and internationally, and actively engage with patients and advocacy groups to ensure that our research is relevant and impactful. Through our work, we strive to improve the lives of individuals affected by insulin resistance and hormonal disorders and contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge in this critical area.

Vision: To be a leading research group in the field of insulin resistance and hormonal disorders, recognized for our commitment to excellence in research, education, and patient care.

Mission: Our mission is to conduct cutting-edge research that addresses the most pressing questions in insulin resistance and hormonal disorders, and to translate our findings into improved patient care. We are committed to fostering collaboration and innovation among researchers, clinicians, and educators, and to training the next generation of leaders in this field. Through our efforts, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals affected by insulin resistance and hormonal disorders, and to contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge in this critical area.

Ongoing Research Projects

Potential drug investigation of unused medicinal plants of Sri Lanka to discover novel potent biologically active compounds especially for cancers and diabetes mellitus. This work was conducted in Dalhousie University and it was first time, in the world to show that this Costus speciosus is effective in liver cancer.

Exploration of medicinal herbs for possible preparation of value-added products as neutraceuticals and other food supplements

Project in identifying suitable flavonoids for correction of insulin resistance and PCOS syndrome
