Best paper Award – “Simulator Study on Emergency Manouvere on ship entering Colombo Harbour”

The Department of Marine Simulation has been doing regular Research work including presenting research papers as being part of the World Bank funded AHEAD cell.
On 12th February 2022 the team has won the Best paper Award for the Outstanding paper entitled “Simulator Study on Emergency Manouvere on ship entering Colombo Harbour” presented by Capt. Harindra Perera at the Global Multidisciplinary Conference on Business, Education, Social Sciences and Technology 2022 (GMCBEST2022) held in Malayasia. The study involved how a Very Large Container Carrier (VLCC) having main engine malfunction can be stopped safely with minimal damage within the harbour confines using all available resources.
It was a great team effort and the team comprised of Professor Rohini Widyalankara, Capt. Prasanna Sedrick and Samadhi Medawela Disanayake and we are extremely proud about it.
On the earlier occasion on 16th March 2021 the Simulator team won the Best paper Award for the paper entitled “Marine Simulator based Training in Sri Lanka: Tolerance Limits for Freeze Probes during Open Sea Scenario Phase” presented by Mr. Samadhi Medawala Disanayake at the 7th Ai-MAST 2021 held at the Universiti Malayasia Terengganu, in Malayasia.
