“Empowering the Next Generation of Maritime Professionals”

In alignment with Sri Lanka’s national vision to expand the seafaring community to 50,000 by the year 2030, and CINEC’s innovative concept of vertically integrating education linking the Schools, Universities , and the Industry many initiatives toward nurturing interest among youth to pursue careers in shipping has been taken by CINEC.

The training workshop was conducted on 17th and 18th December 2024 at CINEC Campus, Malabe, with the active participation of students from Ananda College.

The program aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to the dynamic world of commercial shipping and maritime science — a key industry with growing global and national demand. The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the program was held on 1st July 2025 at Ananda College, Colombo 10. This landmark event celebrates the successful completion of a training program jointly organized by the Ananda College Marine Association and CINEC Campus, a leading maritime education and training institute in Sri Lanka.

Capt. Ajith Peiris, President and CEO of CINEC Campus, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony will also be attended by Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, former Navy Commander and current Senior Consultant, and other senior officers at CINEC Campus.

As a token of encouragement and knowledge-sharing, copies of the first Sinhala textbook on Shipping, authored by Chair Professor Lalith Edirisinghe, was donated to the Ananda College Library.

It was encouraging to note the participation by many girls’ schools and their enthusiasm about maritime education. CINEC Campus commenced enrolling girls for Maritime courses a year ago and some lady cadets also participated in the ceremony
