Pre-Symposium Talk: Reinventing Yourself – Thriving Beyond Your Original Profession

The Faculty successfully conducted a Pre-Symposium Talk titled “Reinventing Yourself: Thriving Beyond Your Original Profession” on 7 July 2026 at the CINEC Auditorium.

The session was delivered by Eng. Thushara Asuramanna, General Manager / CEO of the State Mortgage & Investment Bank (SMIB). Drawing from his own professional journey, he demonstrated how the analytical thinking, problem-solving approach, and systematic mindset developed through engineering enabled him to successfully transition into the banking and finance sector and eventually lead one of Sri Lanka’s leading state financial institutions.

Through practical experiences and real-world examples, Mr. Asuramanna emphasized that while technical knowledge provides a strong foundation, continuous learning, adaptability, leadership, effective communication, and embracing new challenges are the qualities that drive long-term career success.

The event attracted around 300 students, who actively participated in the session and gained valuable insights into career development, interdisciplinary opportunities, and preparing for the rapidly evolving professional landscape.
